Choi Ji-woo Biography
Choi Ji-woo is one of the most famous Korean actresses in Asia region. She was made popular with TV dramas like Winter Sonata and Stairway to Heaven.
Choi Ji-woo was first noticed when in an audition in 1994, and got her first acting experience in 1995 with TV drama War and Love. In 1996 Choi starred in high rated TV drama First Love alongside Bae Yong-joon and gained wide popularity in Korea.
Choi-Ji-woo continued to star in numerous movies TV dramas, including Mr. Duke and Beautiful Days etc. Her breakthrough however came in 2002 with TV drama Winter Sonata (with Bae Yong-joon again) that shaped her into an international superstar.
Winter Sonata is one of the most popular Korean drama in Asia, and opened up the entertainment-tourism for Korea where drama fans flocked to Korea to visit the filming scenes of the TV drama.
Choi’s popularity peaked again in 2003 TV drama, Stairway to Heaven (starring alongside Kwon Sang-woo).
Choi Ji-woo went into drama hiatus for almost 3 years since then, and starred in a couple of movies instead. She only came back into TV drama acting in 2006, starring in a Korea-Japan joint production, Rondo, which didn’t receive good ratings.
Choi’s latest project is TV drama Air City, which is scheduled to start showing in May 2007.
